Eve’s Story: The Mid-Year Check-In

Half the year is gone. How are you… really?

June arrived quietly, and before Eve realized it, the month and the first half of the year were almost over.

One evening, at the beginning of the month; Eve sat quietly with a cup of tea and opened the notepad where she had written her goals at the start of the year.

She smiled at some pages. Others made her sigh and almost overwhelmed her.

There were dreams she had imagined would happen by now. Projects she had hoped to complete. Habits she had promised herself to build. But life had happened – unexpected expenses, busy schedules, disappointments, moments that required survival more than achievement.

As she flipped through the pages, a familiar thought surfaced: What have I even accomplished this first half of the year?

At first, Eve focused only on what she had not done – the unfinished plans, the unchecked goals, the missed opportunities, the course she couldn’t enrol in. And suddenly, six months felt like failure. Eve went through the first week thinking of herself as a failure.

But after sitting with her thoughts for some while, she asked herself a different question: Am I only measuring success by achievements?

That question shifted things.

As  Eve looked closer, and reflected; she realized there were victories she had ignored.

She had survived some difficult days.

Learned to say no without guilt.

Rested when her body needed it.

Shown kindness to others.

Chosen healing over pretence.

She had kept going.

And suddenly, she realized that these victories mattered too.

Maybe growth wasn’t always loud. Maybe not every victory came with applause. Maybe progress wasn’t only about what you have achieved, but also about who you are becoming.

So Eve, instead of criticizing herself, she decided to balance the mid-year check-in.

Not to judge herself, not to compare herself, but simply to reflect.

She wrote:

What have I improved on this first half of the year?
What have I survived?
What am I grateful for?
What do I need more of in the second half of 2026?
What skills do I need to develop to support my future goals?
What do I need to let go of?

For the first time in weeks, Eve felt lighter and more energized to embrace the second half of the year with gratitude and clarity.

Not because everything had gone according to plan, but because she remembered that life is not a race. It is an individual journey – not a competition against time or against anyone else.

She realized that perhaps progress is not only measured by what we achieve, but also by who we are becoming.

A Gentle Reminder

As June comes to an end, you do not have to measure your worth by how many goals you’ve achieved. Celebrate the visible victories – but don’t forget the invisible ones too.

Healing is progress.

Rest is progress.

Prioritizing one’s mental wellbeing is progress,

Growth is progress.

Starting again is progress.

And sometimes, simply making it through a difficult season is also progress.

Your Mid-Year Check-In

  • Gratitude: What am I grateful for so far in the year? You can chose to list them out.
  • Satisfaction Scale: On a scale of 1-10, how satisfied am I with my year so far? What is that ‘one thing’ that would push that score higher from where it is now?
  • Lessons Learned: What three key lessons have I learned about myself or my work so far this year?
  • Habit Check-In: What time-management or lifestyle habits should I continue, and which ones should I eliminate?
  • Energy & Joy: What activities and relationships have brought me the most joy? How can I prioritize more of that in the months ahead?
  • Skill Development: What new skills or knowledge do I need to acquire or strengthen to hit these upcoming goals?
  • Course Correction: Looking ahead, what is one major personal routine I need to give more attention? To stay “refresh” for this second half of the year?

Make a commitment to approach the second half of the year with intention, grace, and good health.

Remember: you don’t need January to begin again – start from the point you are now!
